What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that uses the power of positive suggestion to bring about a subconscious change to your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.  Patterns of behaviour are re-programmed which enables you to overcome phobias, negative thoughts and irrational fears.

What form might my treatment take? 

Hypnosis involves the induction of a trance-like and deeply relaxed condition to promote healing or positive development.  You are in an enhanced state of awareness and your conscious mind is suppressed allowing the subconscious to be awoken.  I am than able to suggest ideas and lifestyle adaptations to you which enables you to make positive changes within yourself.  

Will I be in control?

Yes, you will always be in control and can not be made to do anything you would not ordinarily do.  You are not 'put to sleep'  and you remain fully aware of your surroundings and situation.


The important thing is that you want to change some behavioural habit or addiction and are highly motivated to do so.  

I simply facilitate your experience and empower you to make positive change.  We will work on whatever issue has brought you here and will overcome the issue together.

Can I hypnotise myself?

I will teach you the technique of self-hypnosis which you can practice at home, to reinforce your sessions with me.  This is particularly helpful for anxiety-related conditions.


What problems can be treated by Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy can be applied to many psychological, emotional and physical disorders.  You can also use it purely for relaxation and it is proven to be beneficial in stress management, anxiety and panic attacks and phobias of all kinds.  


It can also be used to cure habits such as nail biting, hair pulling (Trichotillomania) and body dysmorphia (BDD).  Hypnotherapy can be used to relieve pain in surgery, dentistry and during childbirth.  It can ease the suffering of those facing terminal illness and chronic pain, and it can help people to overcome addictions such as smoking as well as help with weight management. 


Children can also be hypnotised to be helped with nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting) and chronic asthma, whilst teenagers can conquer stammering or blushing problems which can otherwise make their lives miserable, as well as exam nerves.  Confidence issues such as public speaking and presentations or lack of self-esteem, are common issues that can be resolved with Hypnotherapy.   

It can also be used for conditions exacerbated by stress such as irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis and eczema.  Even tinnitus and menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes can be treated by Hypnotherapy techniques.
